Bzzzzzzz......busy as a bee.....

Have you ever started a
project and wondered
"WHAT THE HECK HAVE I STARTED!!"

Well I did just that.
"Oh I would love some cute slipcovers for my couch AND love seat.
I'm sure I can whip those up in no time!"

I lost track of how much time they actually took, but I know we ate dinner with thread and fabric pushed to the end of the table, socks trailing small pieces of fabric and more thread all over the house, for at least a month. No one dared say anything about the mess (so their lives were spared or maybe they really didn't notice-that's not a good sign!), but they eventually got done. It only took about twelve trips to Joanns and Walmart for more thread, more fabric, more velcro, more piping, more, more, more....

A glimpse of the mayhem:

Help! Which way do the stripes go? Dang, cut that one out wrong! Ok, I'll use that for the arms later.

Finally some progress was made.....

And then they were done!! (enter lovely angels singing hallelujah)
Then came some new curtains and rods, and a couple of pictures to go between.

Final living room:

While I had the sewing machine out I decided to slip cover my slipper chairs. I have two of them. They turned out pretty cute!

Now I can vacuum. Tomorrow. If I feel like it. Which isn't likely. (hee hee)

What are ya gonna do...?

Taylor decided to push the limits on his physical abilities this month. Within one week he was taken to two different doctors for two different x-rays. In one of the last plays of his football game he was carrying the ball and got hit with the opponents headgear so hard that it left paint on his hand!
They thought it was broken, but he is MUCH stronger than that! It was just severely bruised.

Then, while doing a frontwards flip, he tore some tendons in his ankle as he was coming down. OUCH! We thought for sure it was broken. Nope. Just super swollen and lots of pain. And of course the tearing of the important workings of an ankle!

Then to top it all off, the very next week he went to the dentist for a cleaning and the dentist said he had time to extract his wisdom teeth right then and there....what to do, what to do, so we did! (umm, rather, he did)

You may as well get all the pain over with in one fell swoop! HA.

...the tracks of my tears...

I thought I left my house looking a little more like this, and............................

Sooooo, I went into a thrift store to find an antique jar, which I found, and proceeded to the checkout. The total should have been 1.98 plus tax. She said "that's $1.93 please." I asked if it was on sale, cause it shoulda been over $2.00. She said no, that's with the discount. I said what discount? ...............and then it happened!!!! .................................."the over 55 discount"

.........................HHOORROORRSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I said "I'm NOT 55". She looked very embarrassed and gave me the discount anyway (like duh! at least!!). "Would you like a sack for that?" NO, I'LL JUST CARRY IT OUT WHILE I CRY ALL THE WAY TO MY CAR!
And so, I left the store feeling like this:

Where we live...

House "before", just after we bought it in 1995...
what were we thinking!!???

It was definitely a fixer-upper!
(click on pictures to enlarge)

(pretty ugly, I KNOW! Sheesh!)

The new deck is on, now the roof...

Now painted taupe and sporting a new screen door,
this was our house about six
years ago.
More things to do...

{and we KNOW how cute flags make a house!!!!}

New windows and window boxes, {made by yours truly....}

{Winter time......doot dee doot dee doo}
{Darn, I forgot to take the dead
flowers out of the window boxes!!}
{again ;)}

Then we put in this stone wall.
An improvement over the 1970's railroad ties!
cha cha cha--

This is our house today { I got more ROAD than house in that shot!}
Aren't the pink flags cute! {haha, snort}
We have been redoing the grass, that is why it is brown. And the pink flags mark where the sprinklers are. If I waited any longer to get a shot of the house with green grass and all, it would be winter again!

OUCH!!!!

I had only been stung once that I can remember,
when I was about 9 years old.
Now add two more times in two weeks to that!

Once on my finger (while I was dutifully
helping paint an old city building for my

son's Eagle Scout project) by a wasp-- HIM!

and once on my thumb (while dutifully watering my
flowers in the back yard)
by a honey bee-- THIS GUY!!

AARRGH!!!

a little tutorial.....

My husband asked me to grow some grass in a pot, (umm, that doesn't sound right), so he could see how fast it grew. You see, we (he, as in my husband's idea) are reseeding our lawn after much roundup and killing of the bermuda grass and thatching and....so forth and so on...anyhoo, I did, and thought you might like to see how fast it really does grow!

Find a pot and some rye grass seed.....

Put dirt in pot...

put grass seed on top, lots and lots of it...

cover with a little more dirt...oh, and water it...

Then in about 3-4 days you will see this...

and another day or so later you will see this...(be sure to keep it moist!)

and before you know it, in about 7 days, you will have this...

and every day it will grow almost so fast you can see it!!

Like this....

And, wala!!! You have a really cute pot of grass!
(just to look at, you know!)
